My then boyfriend’s father was a movements inspector with BR at this time,he along with others had the job of sorting out and clearing up the remains of this accident. It made him ill,for weeks.He described to us what it was like and added the comment,that if it had been an uptrain with second class carriages at the front it would have been much,much worse.
