Saturday 6th January
Unveiling
of
Rail Crash Memorial
On 6th January 2018, at 12:00 noon, the memorial to those killed in the Hixon Rail crash, which took place on 6th January 1968, will be unveiled in the grounds of St Peter’s Church.
Wellington Fields Allotments, Hixon, would like to thank the companies and individuals who have generously donated time, plants and money for the memorial. The time of the unveiling has been chosen as it will be 50 years, to the hour, since the train crash at the old level crossing in New Road, which resulted in the deaths of 11 people. Many of the villagers rushed to the scene to give whatever help they could on the day.
We would like to invite the whole village to attend the unveiling and afterwards the exhibition and talk which will take place in the Memorial Hall, opposite the Bank House. The talk will be given by Malcolm Garner and will commence at 2:00. For those not familiar with the details of the accident the talk will give information about the accidentitself, the causes of it, and the changes which came about as a result.
For those unable to attend on the Saturday the exhibition will be open again on Sunday 7th January from 11:00 am through until 3:00 pm
Special thanks goes to the following companies and individuals for their generosity.
